Hello and welcome to my first newsletter of 2026!
I hope you are in good form after the festivities. Now it’s time to get down to the business of shaking up our old habits and regimes which we may have pushed to their limits lately.
As you may remember, I visited Monet’s garden in Giverny last October. At the end of his career, Monet was mainly concerned with was the lily ponds, his paintings of which are awe-inspiring works. What amazes me is how advanced they are for the era in which he was working, and how these works must have influenced the Abstract Expressionist movement which developed later in the USA.
Well, I’m not an abstract expressionist (so far…), and my paintings are my particular style, which I find it impossible to change. So, I won’t try to imitate Monet in my work, though Monet was also influenced by Japanese art prints, as am I. My painting of Monet’s garden, Pond and Flowers struck me as having quite an obvious Japanese style, though not really intentional.
I hope you enjoy these paintings. I’m including a watercolour painting of Monet’s Garden Path, which I will see if it will translate into an acrylic painting also, in due course.
Wishing you all the best for 2026!
