Monchique Street… latest painting

I have to confess I did this painting from a photo which I took when walking along a street which I don’t very often walk along. I was struck by this rather cute and pleasing scene. The calçada’d street receding into the distance, the typical mix of Portuguese styles of urban buildings, and a convenient plant overhanging the street, in its enthusiastic overgrown-ness.

The street is Rua Prior Francisco Jorge de Melo, where the Conservatoria is located, also a small Coviran store. Walk to the end of this road and turn right, and you will be in the Rua Dr. Samora Gil, where you will find the Ochala café on the left. Hopefully you are now oriented!

And since the first version of this blog post, a watercolour version is now here! I wanted to make the largest building blue in this one…but have another version on the easel with a stronger dark blue building. And then I think that this particular subject will be completed.

I hope you like them. I can see a distinct difference when I paint from my own drawing or from a photo. Is this difference apparent to you, too?
I expect it is.

All for now, and stay cool.
