Monchique Street (large version)


Another version of Monchique Street. I wanted to paint a version of this scene in dark blues and purples. It worked out… more or less!
I used a variety of stencils to create depth and texture. I’m not big on brush marks, which are usually used for creating texture and depth. I just can’t. Unless it’s the sky. Maybe it’s my influences of Pop and Japanese art which makes brush marks problematic for me. For the parts which aren’t stencilled, I do like a smooth looking surface, with some subtle blending of colour though…

That will probably be the last of the Monchique Street series for now, at least.

I hope you are enjoying the onset of autumn. Autumn is my favourite season, and I have my birthday in the autumn. This year I will be celebrating it in a different location, which I will tell you all about later. Hopefully I will be doing some sketching there, let’s see!
