Small watercolours series

I’ve been doing some small watercolour paintings over the past few weeks. Mainly because watercolour works well in warmer weather, not having to wait long for layers to dry. It’s also good for visitors who want to take a small painting back home in their luggage.

Until now, I felt unsure whether I really like the effect of the rough textured paper, but I’m finding the results increasingly interesting. As it holds more water while you’re working, there is more flexibility and more time to move the paint around on the paper before it dries. I found a pad of Arches rough cold pressed 300gm which had belonged to my father and had become buried deep in my studio for several years. I started working with it, and started to like the results so much, I’ve just ordered more of it. :-). I’ve still plenty of smoother paper too, so my only limits are finding new ‘scapes!

These watercolours are all sized 29 x 21cm and priced €140 each, and as they will look good in pairs or multiples, and I’m offering two for €250. They fit a standard 40 x 30cm frame.

If some of the scenes seem familiar to you, they may be new versions of old favourites, but for the majority it’s their first time as a painting.

I enjoy both watercolour and acrylic and occasionally a turn with oil paint. I’m wondering, which medium do you prefer to see my work in? I’ve inserted a form below if you would like to leave a comment about this.
Thanks!
