Two chairs looking out to sea, Alvor

Hi everyone,

I’m pleased to let you know that finally the painting of the two chairs is finished. It turned out to be quite challenging, as the proportions were harder to translate from my drawing to work on the larger scale.
I like looking at paintings of water, though not necessarily of the sea. I think my problem with the sea is that there is nothing the other side of it, just sky… But in this painting, there is a stretch of land to divide the sea from the sky. It brings everything closer, the boats are contained in this section, without any of them drifting out into the ocean and disappearing from the painting.

Some interesting (?) information on me and boats… lol 😁
I have to confess, although I love to be at the beach and dip into the sea, I am no good at being on a boat. I have been on quite a few in the past; one in particular was on Lake Titicaca which nearly capsized when a storm blew up. The boat only had one outboard motor working in the first place. Many of the gringos on board were turning shades of green and some were sipping coca tea to calm their nerves. Another time on a tourist boat in Iceland to visit the puffins, the anchor failed and we were heading towards the harbour wall. Luckily a neighbouring boat that was anchored, threw a rope to our boat and we were saved. I had no idea anchors were operated by machinery.. but then it was a modern kind of boat.
I could go on, but mostly my sailing adventures featured losing my breakfast or whatever meal, over the side. Strange really, as my father and uncle were both in the Royal Navy, and my sister likes to go on a cruise.

So here is the finished result..

Two chairs looking out to sea, Alvor, acrylic on canvas, 60x 40cm €400

I hope you like it.

I wonder what is up next?

Until then,

best wishes,
Liz
