Christmas.
It’s a bit early for Christmas, for me at least. But I don’t think I will be painting much in the days remaining before Christmas, as I’m shortly going to the UK to visit my mother on her 103rd birthday, but will be back at home for the actual festive season. Here, that is usually a market in huts spread around the main square in Monchique selling locally made artisan goods; nativity scenes in the public areas; my neighbour’s annual mince pie and Glühvein party… and on Christmas day, a seat in the sun outside the back door, enjoying a glass of rosé Cava before having my homemade nutroast. But let’s get on, I have paintings to show you!
The first painting, took me a long time to organise, as I used a different process to usual. First, painting papers in these colours, painting sections of paintings, cutting out chosen shapes referenced from my first watercolour of the stream at Peso. Then arranging bits of paper on the floor, until the composition felt right… then executed!
This painting has a partner, who is still in the early stages of development. I hope to be able to show it to you early in the New Year.

And this landscape, one which I’ve been seeing on my daily walks and planning to paint for a while: Sunset in Chilrão. The neighbour’s ponies make an appearance, at last. I have often thought they would make a good addition to my Chilrão landscapes, and they deserve to be immortalised in paint.

I hope you’ve enjoyed these new and different paintings, and I wish you a happy Christmas and festive season.
